You wake up.
The day is filled with possibilities.
You make coffee.
You look at your to-do list.
You have the best intentions.
Suddenly you find yourself scrolling facebook.
You call your mom back.
You run a load of laundry.
You even clean the bathrooms!
The small things that we neglect daily in our businesses are what keep us from reaching our goals. And if you are anything like me, staying focused while building your business is one of the hardest parts to nail!
So how do you stay on track? How do you know what to do first? How do you actually tackle that list and manage it all?????
Bad Habit #1
But really, everyone says procrastination, right? But what can you do to really combat this bad habit???
Set a timer for 20 minutes of solid focused work - then get 5 to scroll IG.
Close your open tabs other than the one you need - IE Facebook!
Have an accountability buddy - check in and be sure you are getting your shizz done!
Remove distractions - if you need a clean desk to work, clean it the night before so you can start working without dwadling! Create a list of when you will do the things that USUALLY tear you from getting your stuff done. IE - laundry Sunday at noon.
Bad Habit #2
Going to Bed Without Knowing What You Need to Accomplish the Next Day
This is were planning comes into play. You are apt to get far more done if you make your plan the night before. Write it all out. And like we said before, clean your desk. Have a clear and concise list of all the things you need to do ready so that you can get right to it. If you find time management is an issue for you - have some forethought - and assign a time limit for each task as well. Break it down into smaller easier to digest chunks!
Bad Habit #3
Doing the "Fun" Things First
I get it, it is way more fun to do some things than it is to do others. BUT, doing the biggest, hardest, most important task FIRST will give you a huge leg up in your business. Many of us put off the BIG stuff because it is overwhelming, so break it down into smaller, easier to handle chunks. Give yourself time to finish the chunk, then do something that is easy and fun. By doing the hard stuff first, you get into the habit of really putting your efforts into the things that matter for your business.
BONUS Bad Habit!!!!!!!!!
Not Taking Time OFF!!!!!
Y'all - you have to make time for what matters. You cannot work yourself into the ground. Pushing to hard will only accomplish burnout and frustration and resentment from friends and family. We all need time off, even if we love what we do.
